Kimi Antonelli Wins the 2026 F1 Spanish Grand Prix
The 2026 F1 Spanish Grand Prix delivered an exciting race at Madrid’s brand-new Madring circuit. Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli claimed victory in the inaugural Formula 1 race at the new Madrid track, securing his eighth Grand Prix win of the 2026 season.
Antonelli started the race from second on the grid behind Lando Norris, but a crucial Virtual Safety Car period created a major strategic opportunity. Mercedes was able to make the right pit-stop decision, helping Antonelli take control of the race.
Antonelli Extends His Championship Lead
The victory was another major step in Antonelli's 2026 championship campaign. After 14 rounds, he leads Mercedes teammate George Russell by 81 points in the Drivers' Championship. Mercedes is also leading the Constructors' Championship.
With several races still remaining, the battle for the Formula 1 World Championship continues to develop.
Max Verstappen Finishes Second
Red Bull's Max Verstappen produced another strong result by finishing second at the Spanish Grand Prix.
Verstappen stayed competitive throughout the race and secured another podium finish, keeping himself among the leading drivers of the 2026 F1 season.
Lando Norris Finishes Third After Pole Position
Lando Norris started the Spanish Grand Prix from pole position after an extremely close qualifying session. He beat Antonelli by only 0.011 seconds to take the top starting spot.
Norris initially looked capable of fighting for victory, but the timing of the Virtual Safety Car affected his pit-stop strategy. After losing the strategic advantage, the McLaren driver eventually finished third.
Charles Leclerc Finishes Fourth
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc completed the top four, while Mercedes driver George Russell finished fifth.
Lewis Hamilton's race ended early because of brake problems, making it a difficult Spanish Grand Prix for the Ferrari driver.
The New Madring Circuit
The 2026 Spanish Grand Prix was particularly important because it marked Formula 1's first race at the new Madring circuit in Madrid.
The new track provided a very different challenge for the drivers, with limited overtaking opportunities making qualifying and race strategy especially important.
